Every Exclusive Use booking is different. Some visit for the big significant birthdays, the anniversaries, reunions or just to get family and friends together. We have however had some memorable weddings parties here but this was the first all Asian family group for a grand society wedding with all the glitz and glamour of Bollywood. It was breathtaking, flamboyant, sparkling, buzzing and sometimes wonderfully chaotic.
Penny was heard to announce “We don’t normally do breakfast quite like this, so everyone must shout if they need anything” and they did – it was fantastic and the atmosphere an easy, spirited togetherness with a family so comfortable and effortless together and so excited about the imminent marriage of Qasim.
The dining room doubled as a hair salon and make up studio while scrambled eggs found their way under the noses of those being pampered. Curls of glossy black hair were created as the nail art and lashes were applied and at the same time, Yorkshire tea, avocado on toast with poached eggs were weaved in through the group to reach the hungry guests.
The dresses had to be seen to be believed. Intricate beading adorned the fronts of figure hugging gowns and flowing scarves. The family group had co-ordinated their colour scheme and the effect was stunning. When all were fed, beautified and ready, the cars drove the wedding party the short distance to Tennents Auction House. This purpose built venue was redeveloped in 2014 making it the largest auction house in the UK.
Much to our delight, this generous and hospitable family invited Penny and I to join the wedding and see the spectacle of the wedding reception. 300 guests from an extremely wide diversity of cultures arrived at the magnificent banqueting hall filled with candles, ivory flowers raised high above the tables and a 5 piece quartet. The variety of dress confirmed the blend of different nationalities, cultures and faith. It was colourful, vibrant and exciting.
As the bride and groom’s entrance was announced, the wedding drums fired up a loud, high energy cacophony of sound, much to the surprise of the Dales sheep grazing nearby who had almost certainly never heard anything like it! This wedding was filled with ritual and celebration and it was a privilege to be present to share in their special day. We look forward to welcoming this dynamic family back to the lodge before too long for some more mayhem and laughter. We wish Qasim and his bride all the very best.
