Discover the Yorkshire Dales on your bike as part of a cycling holiday
The Yorkshire Dales has such excellent cycling opportunities for gentle routes in the valleys to challenging climbs through remote open moor. The roads are fairly quiet and the scenery is stunning and memorable. The area is well geared up for cyclists with friendly welcoming places to stop for refreshments and the locals are used to those on two wheels. The Tour de France may have been and gone through the Dales, but it will live long in people’s memories.
Cycling, as part of a visit or as a touring holiday, can be well catered for at Eastfield Lodge. A secure bike store away from the main road, a large drying room stocked with coat hangers and newspaper! an outside hose and large sink, basic tools and track pumps, hot showers, a full Yorkshire breakfast, packed lunches on request, hot drinks in bedrooms and the lounge, flasks readily filled, a map and information room with cycle specific books and leaflets, a daily weather forecast on display and a nearby cycle repair shop at Leyburn Bikes – www.leyburnbikes.com
The lodge is within a 5 minute walk of Leyburn market town with all of the necessary amenities such as restaurants, pubs, shops, banks and cash machines.
Local cycle events are extremely popular and well attended such as the cyclosportives which feature different length loops as challenge rides. They are organised events which follow way-marked routes. You are normally timed although they are not a race. These events are fantastic social occasions with hundreds of riders out on course. The best known is Etape du Dales in May which appears in the Top 10 rides in the UK. Taking in some classic Dales climbs this is 176km and 3,450m of climbing that you will not forget and there are many more events to choose from. At the end of any of them, the lodge will be a welcome place to rest tired bodies and recover in comfort.
